Butterfly Life Cycle

The last few weeks we have been learning all about the butterfly life cycle. We bought painted lady butterflies and they were sent to us a few weeks ago (we got them here Painted Lady Butterflies) My students were able to observe the butterflies going through their entire life cycle, up close and personal! They made observations in their journal about what they saw. Today they finally came out of their chrysalis! We were all so excited, since they aren't able to fly yet they all got a chance to hold them on a Popsicle stick.

This is how our caterpillars were sent to us! They grew about double the size over a few weeks and then began to form their chrysalis! The website where we purchased them also had all the resources that we used for free! We got to read about them, draw our observations, and so much more! The students, along with myself, learned so much more about the butterfly life cycle being able to see it actually happen. We even got to see a butterfly actually come out of its chrysalis!
